Shortly after Governor Tony Evers voiced his support for those protesting the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, a local Representative expressed his opinion.
In a post on Facebook, Representative Shae Sortwell stated, “I choose not rush to judgement. Was the person shot reaching for a gun or other weapon? Maybe the officer overreacted? We just don’t know a whole lot yet. If the officer did wrong, then he should be held accountable. If the shooting was justified because the person in question was threatening officers, then we should let the investigation proceed and show that.”
He went on to condemn the violence, and rioting in the city, saying “I have been an advocate for criminal justice reform. My record on that is clear. But burning down Kenosha is not reform.”
