A 44-year old Sheboygan man is hospitalized with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries following a police pursuit through two communities late Sunday morning.
Kohler Police Chief Shawn Spivalo said an officer attempted to make a traffic stop for a speeding violation in the village about 10:00 AM.
As the officer followed the motorist with both lights & sirens activated, the driver started to pull over in the city of Sheboygan Falls when the vehicle rapidly accelerated and fled.
A pursuit was declared as the suspect vehicle was operating at reckless speeds of approximately 80 MPH in speed zones of 25 MPH, driving through private property, causing damage and failing to heed several stop signs.
The fleeing motorist then re-entered the Village of Kohler at dangerous speeds and failed to observe traffic signs, when he couldn’t negotiate a turn on Greenfield Drive at Highland Drive, causing a rollover crash.
The driver and lone occupant was transported by ambulance to St. Nicholas Hospital.
Kohler police charged the suspect with Eluding, which is a felony, while both Kohler & Sheboygan Falls authorities issued traffic violations including: Operating While Intoxicated, having an Open Intoxicant, Driving Without a License, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Damage to Property, Speeding and Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.
