Its nickname is a racial slur. That’s why students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are demanding the school remove the Chamberlin Rock.
The 70-ton boulder is named after a former school president. The problem is the boulder has occasionally been referred to by a racial slur commonly used a century ago for any large dark rock. The boulder has been at its current location for 95 years.
Black students at the university have also called for the removal of the statue of Abraham Lincoln from the campus.
