The 11 Big East Conference basketball teams will be wearing “Black Lives Matter” patches on their uniforms this season.
Marquette men’s associate head coach Dwayne Killings and Justin Gainey helped form the group “Coaches For Action” in June. Both men’s and women’s teams will be wearing the patches during the 2020-21 season, according to a Thursday statement from Big East commissioner Val Ackerman.
Golden Eagles players are backing the idea and they have been active in the social justice movement.
Killings says that shows the players have “grown as leaders.”
