When a Cross Plains homeowner found three people he didn’t know in his garage Wednesday at 2:15 a.m., he confronted them.
The suspects had apparently found a garage door opener in an unlocked vehicle and used it.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says the homeowner fired one shot in the air and the would-be thieves returned fire.
Nobody was hit.
A crime scene unit is investigating to determine the total number of shots fired. Fitchburg police took two people into custody who may have been involved.
No names have been released.
