The Manitowoc Bandits are repeat winners of the Shoreland League Championship series.
After losing the opener of the best of three series to Denmark 1-0, the Bandits outscored the Devilbears 21-0 in the final two games, including a mound masterpiece in a 6-0 title clincher at Municipal Field Saturday night.
Luke Mandich, who won Shoreland League M-V-P and Pitcher of the Year trophies, tossed a complete game 1-hitter, with 14 strikeouts.
Mandich told SeehaferNews.com he approached this game the same as he had all year. He said, “We go in trusting that our hitting is going to be there. We trust that our defense is going to be there, so as a pitcher it makes it really nice to just be able to execute knowing that if you put it in the zone and you don’t have your best stuff, your field is going to be there to back you up.”
Mandich’s teammates gave him some early breathing room with a three-run 1st inning and the Bandits never looked back.
Offensively, Jake Woolsey went 2-for-4 while Chris Rohr & Trent Van Ess delivered RBI’s.
Losing pitcher Yeral Delacruz worked 8-innings for Denmark, allowing 6-runs on 7-hits with 10-strikeouts.
