Fall Sports will proceed with some changes. The WIAA Board of Control voted unanimously today to approve an alternative plan that will allow schools to move fall sports to spring with permission granted to allow schools to split their seasons to accommodate for cancellations or suspensions.
The Board of Control’s recommendation voted on last month stays pat with low risk sports that include cross country along with girls swimming and diving-tennis and Golf permitted to practice beginning Monday while high risk sports such as football, volleyball and boys soccer will start practice September 7th (Labor Day). The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association of a seven-game schedule was approved with games to begin September 21st with postseason play to begin November 9th but there will be no postseason in the spring.
The big change allows schools that don’t qualify for postseason to schedule an additional seventh game if so moved. Schools must make a decision if they choose to play this fall by September 1st but can still opt out and resume play in the spring provided they 50 percent or 3 games of their schedule. School Districts will have final say to allow athletes to play in overlapping seasons.
