An ethics board committee has decided to hire a special investigator to handle a complaint filed against Fire and Police Commissioner Steven DeVougas.
The Milwaukee Association accuses DeVougas of misusing his position to benefit a person who was being investigated by police.
An investigative committee was already examining allegations of a conflict of interest for the commissioner.
He represented a client during a police interview that was part of a sexual assault investigation.
Ethics Board Chair Patricia Hintz expects the investigation to take “months and not weeks.” DeVougas has denied any wrongdoing.
