The Milwaukee Brewers were able to take the rubber match against the Pittsburgh Pirates last night by a score of 3-0.
Ben Gamel drove in the winning run in the 3rd inning with a two run blast that cleared the top row of seats down the right field line. Keston Hiura also hit a bomb to dead center field to round out the scoring for the Crew.
Brandon Woodruff had a good night on the mound, going 6 and 1/3rds innings allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk while earning 10 K’s. Josh Hader came on in the 9th to close out the win, striking out one batter in the process.
Next up for the Brew Crew is their first home series of the shortened season. That will start tomorrow at 1:10 PM against the 2-3 St. Louis Cardinals, after they were swept by the Minnesota Twins.
The Brewers called up catcher Jacob Nottingham Wednesday with Manny Pina battling a minor injury.
Nottingham was recalled from the team’s site in Appleton and relief pitcher Bobby Wahl was optioned there. Nottingham was already in Pittsburgh as part of the three-man taxi squad.
Manager Craig Counsell said Pina took a foul tip off one of his catching fingers Tuesday and was pretty sore.
Counsell said starter Josh Lindblom suffered back cramps Tuesday that force him out of the game in the fifth inning. Lindblom said it felt like he just had an ab workout and is doing fine.
