No pads, no workouts, just tests for COVID-19. Green Bay Packers players in summer training camp are attending virtual training and meetings while they are tested three times in four days.
The players will be allowed to enter the team facility on the fifth day, but the daily testing will continue for two weeks. If the positive test rate remains at five percent or lower, the tests will be limited to every two days.
So far, six N-F-L players have been placed on the reserve-COVID-19 list – none with the Packers.
One player who will not be participating is wide receiver Devin Funchess, who has opted out of the 2020 N-F-L season. E-S-P-N is reporting Funchess blames the COVID-19 pandemic, saying, “Family is first.”
He is the first Packers player to opt-out. The Packers signed him to a one-year deal as a free agent in the offseason. The rules say the team will have the chance to keep him on the roster under the same contract for the 2021 season.
His decision means Allen Lazard will likely become the Packers new number-two wide receiver – and it puts additional pressure to perform on Equanimeous St. Brown and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
