Two women have been arrested on suspicion of beating Wisconsin State Senator Tim Carpenter during a protest over racial injustice last month.
Madison police say 33-year-old Kerida E. O’Reilly and 26-year-old Samantha R. Hamer turned themselves in after they had been identified by members of the public.
Carpenter was kicked and punched as he tried to take a video of the crowd tearing down statues.
His injuries later required surgery.
About 10 people were hitting or kicking the Democrat from Milwaukee after he was knocked to the ground.
