The Manitowoc Public Library reached out to SeehaferNews.com to clarify a statement made by the Mayor. The mask policy does not include the Manitowoc Public Library at this time. The Library Board will be voting on their masking policy at their meeting on Monday.
The Manitowoc Common Council voted 7 to 2 Monday night to require the wearing of masks in all city buildings and properties.
Mayor Justin Nickels says the ordinance takes effect next Monday (July 27th).
Nickels told SeehaferNews.com this includes, “City Hall, The Manitowoc Public Library, the Rahr West Art Museum, the Police Department, and the Courthouse, which is not city owned, that is County, however the State Court System has implemented a mask policy for all circuit courts.”
Nickels says the city will supply citizens with masks-if need be and will ”make any accommodation to make sure everyone has access to a facility.”
The Mayor emphasizes that this is not enforced citywide, just in city owned buildings. That being said, Mayor Nickels voiced his support of local businesses taking it upon themselves to require masks in their facilities.
A detailed explanation will be presented to all city employees soon. It’ll be enforced through September and reassessed at that time.
