The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office reports three family members were wading in the water at McKinley Beach Saturday when the two young ones were having trouble getting to shore due to the size of the waves.
Witnesses tell deputies 19-year-old Jvarius Bankhead was able to get one of the children to shore and the second one made it without help, but Bankhead was swept under the water.
Deputies were told about a person in distress at about 8:45 p-m.
They were able to get Bankhead out of the water and took him to a hospital, but he died before doctors could help him.
