Manitowoc’s Northwest Side has seen a “significant increase” in vehicle break-ins in recent weeks according to Police Chief Nick Reimer.
He tells SeehaferNews.com that a majority of these crimes have occurred in areas off Menasha Avenue including Richmond, Lexington and Michigan Avenues.
“These entries are not about breaking windows,” Chief Reimer explained. “This rash is all about somebody checking your car doors. If it’s unlocked they are going in, and grabbing change or whatever else is in there. We have had weapons…keys…and change stolen.”
Reimer recommends citizens lock their car doors, as most theft from car cases stem from the fact that the car was left unlocked. Also, do not keep any valuable items in your vehicle, but if you must, make sure they are out of site. The trunk is an option to place valuables and/or recently purchased items so they stay out of sight.
