Wisconsin has joined 17 other states in filing a lawsuit over the new federal rule affecting international students.
Attorney General Josh Kaul announced the filing Monday.
The rule informs those students they will have to return to their home countries if they are taking only online classes.
The U-S Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are being targeted.
Four schools in the U-W System have submitted declarations in support.
U-W-Milwaukee says it would lose about half of its 12 hundred international students who pay more than $21 million a year in tuition and $5 million for housing.
