Recent calls for central air conditioning service or repairs kept local technicians very busy.
Jeff Korinek is the service department manager at Schaus Mechanical in Manitowoc, and he says that the number calls really picked up two or three weeks ago. “We really had a surge of calls right after the holiday weekend on Monday the 6th,” he explained. “My assistant and myself took 45 to 50 calls in the first three and a half hours.”
When asked what’s the most common problem of A-C failure, Korinek says the cottonwood that has been floating through the air. He said that those fluffy flakes “plug up the condensing unit, the outside portion of the air conditioner. It doesn’t allow it to breathe, it over heats, and it shuts off, doesn’t do its job or does its job but has to work twice as hard to perform its functions.”
The 2nd culprit blamed on central air conditioning failure are capacitors that control the unit’s fan motor and compressor.
