
One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion, a garage was destroyed and the adjoining house had significant damage in a Sunday afternoon fire in the 1000 block of North 40th Street in Manitowoc.
Firefighters report they were called just after one PM and found a large plume of heavy black smoke, with both garage and house involved. All residents had already evacuated when crews arrived.
Several Manitowoc County fire and EMS agencies assisted in fighting the blaze, but the garage was a complete loss, while the house suffered significant heat and water damage.
One firefighter was taken to a local medical facility to be treated for heat exhaustion.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no dollar estimate of damage is available yet.
