The Milwaukee Brewers don’t really have an ace on their pitching staff and closer Josh Hader is the only star.
What they do have is a manager, Craig Counsell, who is year-after-year one of the best at manipulating the annual September roster expansion.
Under this year’s rules, Counsell will have a staff of 16 or 17 pitchers. The Brewers’ pitching staff is always rightfully questioned and, in recent seasons, has dramatically outperformed its reputation.
Nobody is going nine innings anymore, but Milwaukee pitching coach Chris Hook says he and Counsell have at least 10 pitchers who can eat innings effectively.
