There has been no decision yet as to what school will look like in the Manitowoc District this fall. Superintendent Mark Holzman says the district sought opinion from district residents in a survey that listed three options, “One venue is the typical face to face, obviously with some additional hygiene and spacing. The second would be a hybrid where part of the learning would come from virtual and part of it would come face to face. The third model would be virtual.”
Holzman said the survey showed there was one area of strong agreement, “We had about 1,800 responses. Over half said ‘I’m not very comfortable with coming back 100% virtual.’ So, we tried it. We know the parents were there but 58% said ‘yeah, that’s not really what I’m looking forward to.’ ”
As to when the final decision will be made, Holzman said, “Our goal is, by the end of this month, that we would have a document of how we would provide school and education to our kids this fall. Then making sure that we have those details in hand so that our board is understanding that through the process we got feedback from our parents and our staff members.”
The Superintendent noted that local and state authorities may also have some input in how the classes will actually operate.
