After being shutdown since mid-March because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, summer athletic activities for high school students are resuming around the state of Wisconsin.
Dave Steavpack, Director of Athletics in the Manitowoc Public School District tells SeehaferNews.com that following guidelines of the CDC & WIAA, they’re reopening extracurricular activities here starting Monday, July 6th, “with limited participants, limited sports activities, as well as limited facilities, just to make sure kids and parents, and coaches are following the proper protocols.”
Steavpack explains they’re using two facilities in the district, with restrictions in place. JFK Fieldhouse will house individual activities for basketball and dance and cheerleading. It will open at 8:00 AM with only 10 athletes on each court and 10 in the fitness center each with only one coach.
Stevepack also said “The County has allowed us to have one outdoor location, and that will be at Rubick Field. We will have a speed training program put on for 30 minutes for four different sessions, from 8:00 AM until about 11:20 AM.” In between each session, the equipment that was used will be sanitized.
The goal in all of this for the first two weeks is to get kids and coaches to adhere to the protocols of social distancing. The A-D also says a daily screener will be present for all the workouts and will ask student/athletes 6-to-7 questions every day and also take temperature checks.
Steavpack added, “We’re building trust in the community to keep kids and everyone (involved) healthy and safe.”
