The victim of a hate crime in Madison is thanking the community for its support.
Althea Bernstein and her family released a formal statement Wednesday saying the attack last week has been a traumatic experience physically, mentally and emotionally for the 18-year-old.
Bernstein suffered second- and third-degree burns to her face when a white man shouted a racial slur, walked up to her car as she waited at a red light, sprayed her with a liquid and then lit it on fire.
A reward has been doubled to $10,000 for the arrest and conviction of her attacker.
