A man was shot and killed by a Sheboygan police officer early this morning.
He has been identified by his family as 32-year-old Kevan Ruffin.
The state department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation. It has also been reported that the man charged at the officer with knives before being shot.
A statement from the DCI says officers responded to a call of a man walking in the street with weapons just before six this morning. The officer ordered the man to drop his weapons. He then deployed non-lethal means that were unsuccessful before firing his gun and killing the man. The incident happened near South 15th Street and Illinois Avenue. No law enforcement personnel were injured.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave. DCI is leading the investigation with assistance from the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s department, state patrol, and DOJ office of Victim Crime Services.
