The website 24-7 Sports lists Wisconsin Badgers defensive end Garrett Rand among college football’s “most indispensable non-quarterbacks” for the upcoming season.
The analyst says Rand isn’t flashy after a junior year that produced 27 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack. But, the six-foot-two, 280-pounder is strong against the run and is a key edge-setter in the Badgers’ 3-4 defense.
The statistics tell the story – Rand missed the 2018 season and the Badgers were ranked 75th in a nation against the run. With him on the field as a sophomore in 2017 and a red-shirt junior in 2019, Wisconsin was ninth, then 15th last season.
