Yesterday we reported on the death of longtime Manitowoc Lutheran High School teacher and coach, Fred Heiderich at the age of 85.
Dennis Steinbrenner, who retired after serving the school in several roles, tells SeehaferNews.com he knew Fred very well and actually began as one of his football players.
He described Heiderich as “Probably the kindest person I know. He never said anything critical of someone else. He never raised his voice…well I guess he did at me when I was playing football for him.” Steinbrenner also recalled that Heiderich always asked his students, “Is there anything I can do to help you?”
Steinbrenner also said that if it wasn’t for the current COVID situation, “I’m sure that the line for the visitation and the funeral would be long. He touched so many lives….We’re gonna miss Fred.”
Dennis Steinbrenner said the late coach was retired and 85, and yet, ”there he was this Spring helping coach the shot and discus athletes on the Lancers’ track team, prior to the pandemic. Coaching was his life.”
Funeral services for Fred Heiderich are pending and an outdoor celebration is expected to be held later this summer.
