UW College Republicans Oppose Removing President Lincoln Statue

University of Wisconsin College Republicans oppose removing the President Abraham Lincoln statue from the Madison campus.  The group launched a petition Tuesday to fight efforts to take down Lincoln down from Bascom Hill.  The Wisconsin Black Student Union claims just because Lincoln was anti-slavery doesn’t mean he was pro-Black.  The College Republicans said, “”While we can certainly admit that President Lincoln is not perfect when examining him under today’s moral lens over 150 years later, erasing our shared history does not lead to progress.”  The G-O-P students say they condemn racism and prejudice in all forms.
