Summertime is the most popular time for people to make a big change in their life, and move to a new home. Scammers are of course fully aware of this, and some have created phony websites which claim to help you change your address on things such as your driver’s license, property titles, and many other.
One common version of this scam involves changing your address through the United States Postal Service. You type “address change” or a similar query into a search engine, and several results pop up. You click on the one that looks official and says USPS, and when the site loads, everything looks normal, you fill out the forms and make a payment with your credit or debit card. Shortly after, you notice a hefty charge from a business that is not the USPS. When you call the company to find out what happened, they claim, at best, that they can only offer you a partial refund.
The Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin advises movers to double check any and all websites you plan to use that require personal information.
