We learned earlier today of the death of former longtime Manitowoc Lutheran High School teacher and coach, Fred Heiderich.
The Milwaukee native & UW-Madison grad was 85. Heiderich had been diagnosed with cancer this spring and passed away early yesterday.
He had coached Lancer athletes in football, track and basketball since he and his wife Barbara relocated to Manitowoc in 1970. The Lakeshore All-Sports Hall of Fame enshrinee was head football coach at Lutheran High until his retirement in 2003 but he was still coaching shot and discus throwers for the Lancers Track & Field team in March, when COVID-19 halted all school activities.
Funeral services for Fred Heiderich are pending and an outdoor celebration is expected to be held later this summer.
