Madison police are investigating the attack on a biracial woman last week as a hate crime. Eighteen-year-old Althea Bernstein was driving by the Wisconsin State Capitol last week when four white men approached her and called her a derogatory name while she was stopped at a light. Bernstein says one of the men sprayed her with lighter fluid and tossed a flame at her, setting her on fire. She was able to put the flames out as she drove away, but she had to seek treatment at a hospital for the burns on her face. She’s said to be in good condition. No arrests have been announced.
