A Girls-only State Individual Wrestling Tournament will be added to the sports calendar in Wisconsin in 2021-’22. That was one of the decisions made yesterday by the WIAA Board of Control during its’ meeting in Stevens Point.
Girls and boys will be permitted to wrestle each other during the regular season, but the Tournament Series will be gender-exclusive.
Another board decision with respect to COVID-19, extends the window by one week to use the Coaches’ 5-unrestricted coaching days for this summer, only. It allows 11-player football coaches unrestricted contact through August 1st and all other coaches through August 8th.
Board members also approved implementing a computerized seeding system for the boys and girls basketball State Tournament Series. The goal is to have the system developed by the WIAA available in 2020-’21, but no later than the 2021-’22 basketball season.
The Board adopted a number of Executive Staff recommendations to deal with the financial impact of canceling revenue-producing tournaments in March. One of those calls for a one dollar increase in ticket prices for all Regional, Sectional & State Tournaments beginning this Fall.
