Wilfert Farms near Shoto is currently in the midst of its’ fresh market season including peas, sweetcorn and Kohlrabi. But as co-owner Dave Wilfert says, strawberries are at the top of the list right now. “They’re looking really nice out there. Super good flavor and beautiful color to them.”
The U-Pick strawberry patch opened Tuesday but Wilfert explains that customers have two options to obtain the tasty treat.”They can go either way, buying them out of our store or they can come out and pick their own. In this time with COVID-19 going on, we have a lot of things in place to hopefully protect everyone and do this in a safe manner so everyone can enjoy the season.” Wilfert says he’s happy with the quality of the strawberry crop this year, although it’s admittedly not as good as 2019.
Wilfert says the sweetcorn harvest is less than a month away. “We’re right now projecting our sweetcorn harvest is going to start sometime between the 15th and 20th of July. The sweetcorn got off to a good start, it’s looking pretty good.”
Something you may not know about Wilfert Farms is they’re one of the largest carrot growers in the state of Wisconsin.
