This spring, members of the Manitowoc Golden-K Kiwanis Club were able to fund a record number of scholarships to help defray students’ expenses. A news release indicated that many Kiwanis members used a portion of their COVID-19 economic stimulus payments, recognizing the need to help deserving individuals & non-profit organizations in these trying times.
After submission of applications, a total of 10-graduating senior students from Manitowoc County each received $500-dollar scholarships. Captain Al Nelson & his wife, Diane, have donated $5,000 to enable funding of one student scholarship each of the next 10-years.
Nelson pointed out the student scholarships are “just one of the beneficiaries of Golden K Kiwanis fundraisers, many of them canceled this year.”
He listed the Easter Seals Camp Wawbeek, scouting organizations, Gumby’s Club Fore-A-Cure, local food pantries and veterans’ homes as other causes helped by the Golden K in past years.
