Not yet halfway through 2020 and it’s already the worst year for Wisconsin hotels on record.
A report from Oxford Economics puts the state’s loss in tax revenue from its hotels at more than 186 million dollars due to the coronavirus pandemic.
All Wisconsin hotels had to close their doors during the statewide Safer at Home order – and many are still shut down under local orders.
The Oxford study predicts it will take until 2022 before Wisconsin hotels return to the occupancy they had before the pandemic.
More than 70 percent of hotel employees have been furloughed or laid off.
