Members of Manitowoc Girl Scout Troop 8420 are working on a project which aims to make Manitowoc a better place.
Their Troop Leader is Lyda Schnake, explained that “All levels of the Girl Scouts Troop can do what’s called ‘Journeys’. That’s when you earn a certain combination of badges, and then do what’s called a ‘Take Action Project’. A ‘Take Action Project’ is where they identify a need in the community and come up with a solution for that.”
She explained, in order to be a Take Action Project it has to be something that can be continued in the community. Schnake said the girls came up with doing a shareable rock garden to be displayed at City Hall.
The Troop leader said, “The girls are very passionate about low self-esteem, and helping bring that up. And negative body image, and bullying, and all those things that can really bring a person down. This is geared toward anyone who needs a pick me up. It’s also geared toward anyone who would like to add an inspiration rock to maybe help somebody else along the way.”
Two troop members we spoke to, Emily Schnake and Ava Bloom are very invested in this project. Emily told SeehaferNews.com, “I actually went to this place that had these hidden rocks that have this cool art designs on them, and you can find one and keep it. I just think these will help make people’s day in this time.”
Ava was also excited about the project, “I think it will bring joy to people and we get to go outside more.”
The shareable rock garden, we’re told, is directly behind the mayor’s parking space at city hall, and opened on Saturday.
