United Way-Manitowoc County is celebrating their “Annual Day of Action” next Friday June 19th. Community Engagement Manager Courtney Hanson said, “There are hundreds of United Ways that typically on around the first day of summer have a big volunteerism day in their community. We have been participating for quite a few years now here in Manitowoc County.”
Hanson tells SeehaferNews.com, because of the pandemic they are offering a series of virtual and remote volunteer opportunities that individuals, families or small company teams can compete safely from home or work. “There are also a few in person volunteer opportunities,” Hansen explained. “The non-profits have taken every precaution to have hand sanitizer available, offer anyone to wear their masks, and include social distancing. We have a couple online that thank our local healthcare workers, and the Manitowoc County Historical Society has one on our page as well.”
Hansen is encouraged by many young people lending a helping hand, pointing to the volunteers that are putting together some literacy kits at their home, and involving their children. Hansen said “We are really excited to have so many of those youngsters getting volunteer experience at a really young age.”
