While he completely understands the concerns that some communities have with police officers in their schools…after the death of George Floyd, Manitowoc Public School Superintendent Mark Holzman says it’s “not” a problem in our local schools.
Holzman, says the concern that ‘some’ have is the disproportionate amount of students of color being arrested by officers than white students. But, he pointed out in Manitowoc the school district “has such a great relationship” with school resource officers at Washington and Wilson Middle Schools along with Lincoln High School.
Holzman explains that he feels like school resource officers are really an important component for the safety & well-being of our schools. And, with threats of school shootings in communities across America…those police liaison officers are key indicators in supporting school safety initiatives.
He sees it as a partnership between the school system and the police department.
