Two Rivers Police Chief Brian Kohlmeier has written a letter on Facebook to residents and visitors, following the police-related death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on Memorial Day.
The local chief said “On behalf of the City of Two Rivers and Police Department, I want to express our sorrow and sincerest sympathies to the family of George Floyd. I speak for the entire staff when we say that Mr. Floyd’s death was shocking & his treatment by Minneapolis officers is disturbing & intolerable. The Two Rivers Police Department stands with those working toward peaceful change wherever racism, discrimination & violence exists.”
Kohlmeier continues, “The situation in Minneapolis & in so many large communities seems very different from what we experience in Two Rivers. But, racism & discrimination exist everywhere, even in our small town.”
He added in part, “We all need to do our part to put an end to this intolerance.”
The chief says his department is accountable to everyone & places a strong focus on the training & education of our officers & staff.
He stated “I am thankful for a community that has demonstrated time & time again they trust the TRPD. While we’re not perfect, we will always strive to be.”
