A fourth person has been sentenced to prison for a cold-case sexual assault after D-N-A connected him to the crime.
A 25-year prison sentence was handed down to Jason A. Smith Tuesday for the sexual assault of a child nearly 20 years ago.
Smith was found guilty on two counts last February after the evidence kit in that case was tested as part of the Wisconsin Sexual Assault Kit Initiative.
The 2018 initiative was started as an effort to test hundreds of sex assault evidence kits which had been sitting on shelves – in some cases, for years.
