Grow It Forward, whose mission is to grow, teach, feed, and connect our local food community, was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation.
This funding will go toward Grow It Forward’s hunger relief efforts, further supporting the organization’s partnerships with food pantries, schools, nonprofits, and community meal sites throughout Manitowoc County.
According to Amber Daugs from Grow It Forward, in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, they began drive-thru pop up food pantry distributions, and as of June 1, these pop-ups have served over 1,665 participating families.
Grow It Forward has also established an Emergency Food Bank at Northern Cold Storage, where food is provided in bulk by the Hunger Relief Federation of Wisconsin, USDA Coronavirus Food Assistance Program—Farmers to Families Food Boxes, and Wisconsin Dairy Recovery Program.
These goods are redistributed to partnering food pantries, schools, nonprofits, and community meal sites.
