With the warmer weather and summer storms come roofing scams. This spring, the Better Business Bureau Scam Tracker is already receiving reports of shady “free” roof inspections. The way the scam works is homeowners receive a call or a door-to-door visit from someone claiming to represent a roofing company, which usually is named something along the lines of Wisconsin Roofing or Construction. The phony roofer then offers a free inspection because they are doing your neighbors roof, and is offering inspections to those living nearby. If you accept the inspection, the “roofer” will then either damage your roof or show a picture of a different damaged roof, and perform shoddy work in exchange for your payment. If you believe you have been targeted by this scam, or if you receive an offer similar to this, contact your local police department, and report it to the BBB Scam Tracker.
