Lakeshore area residents answered the call Thursday by donating at a Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin Drive at the Manitowoc-Two Rivers YMCA.
Joe Metzen, the Associate Executive Director at the Y spoke with SeehaferNews.com at the event, and said “The Y believes in giving back to the community, and providing opportunities for not only our members, but community members to give back and support each other as well. Even though we have been closed for about 8 weeks now, this our second blood drive.”
The American Red Cross Wisconsin chapter says they have an urgent need for blood donations to prevent another shortage, as hospitals resume surgical procedures following a pause due to COVID-19. In recent weeks, hospital demand for blood products has grown by 30% after sharply declining in early April when blood drives were canceled as many businesses & community organizations remained closed.
All donors wore facemasks as a precautionary measure.
