Woodland Dunes Nature Center says it’s “encouraged” by the success of its’ “Dash at the Dunes” event. Nancy Nabak says it became a virtual run fundraiser called the “Phantom 5k”, due to COVID-19. The race director said over ‘200’ participants walked, ran, or hiked their way to a 5k medal from mid-April to mid-May..raising $8,500 dollars for Woodland Dunes programs.
Nabak explained, “We’ve never done a virtual fundraiser before and were really one of the first locally to do this, so we were fast-tracking into unknown territory on so many levels. She continued, the participants were awesome, flexible, and sent selfies while on their private route.”
