Gumby’s Club Fore a Cure will happen this summer, but in a scaled-back fashion.
The hugely impactful fundraiser to aid local cancer patients and their families is marking its’ 10th anniversary under co-founders Rob “Gumby” and Denise Roseff. Rob tells SeehaferNews.com it was a gut-wrenching decision to hold the event after some long meetings with their committee.
He explained that during their talks they discussed “How can we pull this event off, and yet keep everybody’s best interest in hand…So many of our volunteers and committee members are cancer patients themselves.”
Denise came up with the simple formula of getting back to the basics. The event started as, in Rob’s words, “A group of friends getting together to play golf and have fun, and raise money. As our 10th year anniversary, it kind of rang true.”
So, to help with social distancing during COVID-19, Gumby’s is going to a 2-day golf event on Saturday and Sunday, July 11th and 12th at Meadow Sports Complex. Denise explained, “It will be a staggered start. Teams will have tee times for when they are to come, and we will get them all on the course.” In previous iterations of the event, teams would be doubled up to keep the event down to a single day.
Past activities that won’t be part of the cancer fundraiser this year include the Friday night Glow Walk/Run, Bowling, and the solemn Butterfly release. The Roseff’s & their committee members helped 84 families in 2019 with proceeds that stay in the community and more than 300 families since inception.
Rob & Denise know the stresses involved from having to deal with the disease for over 10-years. Denise said, “Although we don’t give out huge amounts, we do give out enough to help people with some of their everyday expenses, or if they have traveling to get to medical appointments.”
The goal of that is to help alleviate some of the financial stress involved in battling cancer.
Further details about the 2020 Gumby’s Club Fore A Cure are still being worked out but information is being emailed to past participants.
