N-F-L team owners will be voting this week on the alternative to the onside kick – it’s called the “4th-and-15” rule.
Instead of trying to recover an onside kick, teams would have the option of trying to convert a 4th-and-15 from their own 25-yard line. If they get the 15 yards, they get a first down and keep possession. If they don’t, the other team takes over.
N-F-L squads would be allowed to try it twice a game, whether they’re winning, tied or losing. The option wouldn’t be available during an overtime period.
