Yesterday marked the first time that The U.S. House of Representatives intend to vote by proxy. They recently passed legislation that allows for just a few members of Congress needing to be present to vote and other House members can cast votes for them. The aim is to avoid the risk of travel to Washington during the pandemic.
Sixth District Congressman Glen Grothman told SeehaferNews.com, “As it is, Nancy Pelosi has a lot of power. I don’t think it’s good to have a lot of Democrats just say ‘I’m not going to come to Washington. You vote me whichever way you want me to vote.’ I think that’s wrong.”
Grothman says proxy voting will lead to less interaction with each other. “I like to come here to hear what the Democrats have to say,” Grothman stated. “I think as you switch to a system where barely anyone is in Washington, it’s going to lead to more partisanship.”
The Glenbeulah Republican adds that each member of Congress represents the interest of their Constituents with the power to vote and that the voice of the people they represent will be taken away.
