After dealing with up to 7-inches of rain last Sunday and Monday, gardeners and outdoor enthusiasts are looking forward to a dose of sunshine and warmer temperatures this Memorial Day weekend.
SeehaferNews.com spoke with Jerry Haupt, the co-owner of Lakeland Landscape Service of Manitowoc. Haupt explained the recent rain event was one of the longest extended periods of rainfall he can remember in some time, calling it unusual. “it has the potential to do some damage to the seed…if we don’t get a chance to dry out.” There are chances of showers and even thunderstorms for parts of the weekend, including Memorial Day. Haupt told us that the biggest effect of the two-day showers on his business was the “potential damage for areas we had completed as far as seeding.” He also said, “As things dry out, there is going to be a good amount of moisture in the soil…which will be beneficial as we move forward.”
Meanwhile, the local landscape expert says..COVID-19 has had a rather limited impact on their operations. Haupt said the call volume was down the past 2-months due partially to the colder weather and to coronavirus restrictions. He says they delayed an opening of their Garden Center but were still getting requests for deliveries.
