The aforementioned information is not intended to be all-inclusive. Intelligence suggests a criminal organization operating outside of WI is responsible for manufacturing the counterfeit currency. This Crime Alert is being sent statewide as it appears that counterfeit bills are being passed in numerous locations around WI and US. It has also been learned that Law Enforcement agencies in North East WI have reported numerous recent reports of counterfeit $100.00 bills and investigators are working to determine if there is any connection between these cases. Lastly, this Crime Alert is intended to provide awareness to retailers as to methods used by the offenders to pass counterfeit currency, specifically using “washed” $10.00 bills to manufacture counterfeit $100.00 bills. This method allows for the counterfeit bills to have sufficient security features that would hold up during a cursory examination by the merchant at the point of sale. If anyone has information about this offender and/or criminal organization please contact the Brown County Sheriff’s Office (Sgt. Roman Aronstein).
