One of the founders of the Hopeful Hearts Club in Manitowoc has been selected as a 2020 Carson Scholar.
Lia Haile, a sophomore at Lincoln High School, is being honored as a student who excels academically and is dedicated to serving her community.
The Carson Scholar Fund Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 1994 by world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson and his wife Candy.
To receive the $1,000 dollar scholarship, Lia and other honorees need to have a minimum grade point average of 3.75 and display humanitarian qualities through community service.
It was 2012 when Haile and two friends co-founded the Hopeful Hearts Club that hosts birthday parties for kids at no cost while they stay at Hope House.
Due to COVID-19 regulations, the Carson Scholar fund banquet, scheduled for May 3rd in Maryland was cancelled. Instead, a virtual awards ceremony took place on Saturday, May 9th.
