There was a great turnout last Saturday at Municipal Field for a Linoln Ships Baseball “Drive-Thru Lunch.”
The event was the idea of Lincoln Assistant Coach and Monroe Elementary School Counselor Todd Hadler, who tells SeehaferNews.com they were “overwhelmed” by the number of people who attended.
He explained that they had initially purchased 300 hamburgers and 100 hotdogs, but after only an hour “We were scrambling to run to the store to grab extra food…We ended up selling 800 pieces of meat that day.”
That is double what they anticipated they would sell.
As people drove through the parking lot, before placing and picking up their concession stand food they saw banners designed by Gretchen Steinbecker of Ships seniors who missed out on playing baseball this Spring because of COVID-19. He called it a “great way to honor our outgoing senior class.”
And, to add to the special feeling of the drive thru fundraiser, Hadler told us they were able to donate nearly $1,600 (in a 3-hour period) to Lincoln senior Ryan Barker for his ongoing effort to make personal protective equipment.
The proceeds were delivered to Ryan’s home Monday night.
Congratulations to Todd, Bruce Steinbecker and the entire Lincoln baseball ‘family’ for organizing such a great event that ‘in the end’ promotes safety during the coronavirus pandemic.
