Like many assisted or senior facilities across the state and nation, Angelus Senior Living in Manitowoc has had to make adjustments in its’ operations to deal with COVID-19.
Executive Director Dana Budrick, tells SeehaferNews.com that a lot of their residents are independent, so “it’s obviously affected their movement.” Budrick said they’re also not allowed to have visitors in the building, but “they are very understanding, as are their families.” The residents are still able to connect with their families as “they have laptops of their own and are able to connect via Zoom…and we also offer the capability here to set them up with Skype.”
Budrick also said the residents are cooperative with the staff because they’re continually taking their temperature, oxygen levels and generally just monitoring their health more than they normally do as healthcare providers. As for healthcare workers themselves, she says they’re responding very well. “They are all taking every precaution necessary such as self-quarantining at home, and taking proper precautions here with the residents,” Budrick explained.
“Our health care workers are so compassionate and understanding of the fact that the residents are unable to see their loved ones. They make sure to provide even more companionship than we already do.” The Angelus spokesperson says the community has been very supportive in making and donating masks…but she says the major item of need presently is gloves. People interested in making a donation can place donated gloves in a drop-bucket, located in the Angelus Senior Living entrance breezeway.
