Today is Children’s Mental Health Day, and the state of Wisconsin is shining a light on some of the statistics surrounding the topic with a new fact sheet.
According to the fact sheet released by the Office of Children’s Mental Health, almost half of high school students in Wisconsin are feeling anxious, and the COVID-19 pandemic is probably raising that number even higher.
A child typically experiences symptoms of emotional distress for 11 years before receiving treatment, likely due in part to the stigma surrounding seeking help.
The Office of Children’s Mental Health suggests that parents reach out for help as soon as they see any signs that their child is struggling, and challenge that stigma by considering how you view mental health and by talking to friends and family about mental wellness.
If you or anyone you know is in need of immediate help, you can call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. The full fact sheet can seen by clicking here.
